Biography: In 1985, I became a trial lawyer associated with the law firm of Ben A. Goff, P.C. litigating employment law, labor law, and civil rights for plaintiffs and participating in various appeals which resulted in landmark employment law cases by the Oklahoma Supreme Court: Burk v. K-Mart and Buckner v. General Motors. In 1988, I started my law firm focusing employment and civil rights litigation. I assist individuals and occasionally small businesses. From 1994-2002, I was the Editor of the Employment Law Section of "THE ADVOCATE" and authored employment law articles for this quarterly publication of the Oklahoma Trial Lawyers Association. On December 7, 1996, I received the Special Advocate Award from the Oklahoma Trial Lawyers Association for my commitment to the practicing bar, the Oklahoma Trial Lawyers, and the public for continued authorship of the Employment Law Section of "THE ADVOCATE." On June 26, 1997, I received a Certificate of Recognition from the Executive Board of The National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) for efforts towards the growth of employee advocacy and development of NELA-Oklahoma City now known as Oklahoma Employment Lawyers Association (OELA). I served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Oklahoma Department of Labor from August 2005-June 2006. During my 31 years as an Oklahoma trial lawyer, my name changed from Marilyn D. Barringer to Marilyn D. (Barringer) Thomson.
